Lorain- George Leo Dunnigan Jr., 88, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at EMH in Elyria, OH.
He was born on June 1, 1923 in Lorain, OH to his loving parents, George Leo Sr. and Gertrude M. (nee: Barras) Dunnigan.
George was raised in Lorain, OH and graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army on March 9, 1943 and returned home to marry his loving wife Bernice (nee:Chesnut) on October 30, 1943. George honorably served his country during WWII and was discharged on November 8, 1945. He worked with Ford Motor Company in Brook Park, Cleveland Plant as a supervisor, retiring in 1980. George was a member of St. Anthony of Padua, VFW and the AmVets. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and woodworking.
He is survived by his five sons, George L. III (Dorothy) of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Robert C. of Sandusky, OH, Thomas E. (Karen) of Sheffield Lake, OH, James P.of Kinston, ALA and Richard L. (Lora) of Elizabethton, TN. 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Bernice G. Dunnigan; his daughter, Judith G. (nee: Dunnigan) Litten; three brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH (440) 244-1961 on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 30, 2012 at St. Anthony of Padua, 1305 East Erie Ave., Lorain, OH, Fr. Richard E. Hudak, Pastor, officiating.
