Alice Marie (Foreman) Herrmann

Alice (nee Foreman) Herrmann, 98, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital.

She was born in Elyria, OH on November 10, 1919 and graduated from Elyria High School, Class of 1937. Following High School, Alice worked for a short time at General Industries before her marriage to Harry D. Herrmann on October 10, 1940. Prior to his death, they celebrated their 50th anniversary. For over 25 years, she volunteered in voting stations. While most of her time was spent as a homemaker, Alice worked a few years at Pick-N-Pay and Meyer Goldberg grocery stores. Alice liked to be where the action was. Family time was important to Alice whether she was with her own family members or with the families of her friends. She treasured her time spent with her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She was an avid reader and enjoyed square dancing, and the Poco Loco Line Dancers. Her social activities included listing to Harry Duff’s band, a swim club, bowling, the LoBos Social Club (Lorain/Boston friends), a ladies investment group, and the Lakeland Club. For over 13 years, she cherished the time spent with her companion George Opalenik and his family. She was a member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain where she was active with the St. Francis Mission Group. She also enjoyed traveling near or far; visiting 48 states, Europe, Canada, and the Bahamas.

She is survived by her son, Harry (Jane) Herrmann of LaGrange, OH; grandson, Jim (Michele-fiancé) Herrmann; granddaughter, Holly Herrmann; great granddaughter, Morgan Tolles; and brother, John Foreman, age 101.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Herrmann in 1991; parents, Andrew and Margaret (Dutmer) Foreman; sisters, Helen Haag, Theresa Bott, and Martha Peloquin; and brother, Andrew Foreman.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961 on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM & 5:00 until time of closing prayers at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 PM on Monday, March 12, 2018 at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor, officiating (meet at Church Monday). Private Christian burial services will be held at a later date at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Twp, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Alice’s memory to a veteran charity of donor’s choice.
