Gwen Kaczur

Lorain – Gwen Kaczur, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center in Lorain, OH surrounded by her loving family.

Gwen was born in Lorain, OH on November 25, 1927 to her loving parents Arnold and Harriett (nee Flodell) Coates.

She graduated from Lorain High School Class of 1946. Through her best friend, Tilly Kaczur, she met, Pete Kaczur at the Roller Arena and they were married on June 19, 1948. She enjoyed bike riding, playing tennis and Gwen continued to roller skate until she was 84. She cherished the time that she spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Kathy (Ted) Smith of Lorain and Christine (Jim) Banes of Lorain; grandchildren, Laura Mendez and Leslie Lilly: and Eric, Matt and Stephanie Banes; eleven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; and loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen “Pete” Kaczur; parents, Arnold and Harriett Coates; and siblings, Muriel Stauder, Arthur Coates and Arnold Coates.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM, Pastor Chuck Behrens, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Twp, OH. Memorial donations may be made in Gwen’s memory to New Life Hospice Center, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
