Martha Jane Phillips

Sheffield Lake – Martha J. “Marty” Phillips (nee Slavik), 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Specialty Hospital of Lorain in Amherst surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Centerville, PA on September 18, 1939 to her loving parents, Paul and Anna (nee Homich) Slavik.

Martha grew up in Richeyville, PA and graduated from Ellsworth High School in Ellsworth, PA, Class of 1957. She married John R. Phillips on July 17, 1957 in Winchester, Virginia. They lived in Patterson, New Jersey before settling in Sheffield Lake over 40 years ago. She worked in wire forms at Lorain Products before her retirement. Marty enjoyed crossword puzzles, drinking coffee, collecting camels, collecting pens, taking care of her pets and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She donated blood and was a member of the six gallon club. Marty was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Sheffield Lake and St. Anthony of Padua in Lorain.

She is survived by her loving children, John P. Phillips of Sheffield Lake and Margaret A. Phillips of Elyria; grandchildren, Katie Montoya,  Jason Hartman, Sarah Hartman, Anna Webb, Josh Phillips, and Brittany Phillips; four great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Mike) Satonick of Lorain; and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded by her husband of 34 years of marriage, John R. Phillips; parents, Paul and Anna Slavik; siblings, Michael Slavik, John Slavik, Paul Slavik, George Slavik, Tom Slavik, Joe Slavik, Margaret Rizzi, Mary Slavik, and Anna Slavik.

All services are private. Interment will be held at a later date at Beallsville Cemetery in Beallsville, PA.
