Rudolph G. Harsar

Lorain- Rudolph G. “Rudy” Harsar, 78, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at his home in Lorain, OH.

Rudolph was born on October 10, 1938 in Lorain, OH to his loving parents, Steven and Viola (nee: Sponar) Harsar.

He attended Birmingham High School and graduated from Firelands High School, Class of 1956. During High School he spent every weekend in the Marine Corps., Active Reserves. Rudy worked for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1960. He completed Barber College in Miami Florida before returning home to attend Lorain County Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Data Processing in 1968. He worked for fifteen years for various manufacturers as a programmer systems analyst. In 1983, Rudy opened Rudy’s Market and Carryout and he operated the business for 27 years, retiring in 2010. Rudy was a member of AmVets Post 47 in Lorain and American Legion Post 30 in Lorain. He enjoyed watching all sports, collecting coins, gardening his tomatoes, green beans, hot peppers and he especially spending time with his family. 

He is survived by his son, Gregory (Dana) Harsar; grandson, Alexander Joseph Harsar; siblings, Kathryn Gillespie, Ronald (Cathy) Harsar, Herbert (Barbara) Harsar, Arlene (Kenneth) Meyers, and Diane Love; aunt, Adele Harsar; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Harding; brother-in-laws, Charles Love and Leland Gillespie; and an infant brother.

All services are private. Inurnment with military services will be held at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
