Thomas C. Copeland

Thomas C. Copeland, 74, beloved husband, father, and friend, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 22, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on March 7, 1943 in Ravenna, Ohio to the late Roy and Bernice K. Copeland (nee Reeder). He has been a longtime resident of Sheffield Lake. Tom was a 1961 graduate of Brookside High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Asmara, Ethiopia from 1963-1966 in the Army Security Agency as a Shift Chief Crypto. He went on to earn two Associate Degrees at Lorain County Community College and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Dyke College in 1989. Tom was a member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) for many years.

He was very active within the Sheffield Lake community, serving on the Civic Council, Zoning Board of Appeals, and heavily involved with the Sheffield Lake Community Days events. In 1991, Tom was awarded the Sheffield Lake Outstanding Man of the Year in recognition of his dedicated community service.

He retired from Phillips Medical Systems in 2011 as a Field Service Engineer. During his retirement, he enjoyed restoring his classic Thunderbird and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jean E. (nee Wallace); children, Thomas Douglas, Natalie and Michael; and many family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bernice; and brother, Roy Larry.

Thomas’s memory will be cherished always by those that knew him and those he helped at the end of his life with a final gift through Lifebanc.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 9:10 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 27, 2018 at St. Thomas the Apostle, 715 Harris Road, Sheffield Lake, OH, Fr. Stephen L. Shields, Pastor, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where military honors will be performed by U.S. Army.
