John Charles Riegel, 65, passed away at his home in Amherst, Ohio. Born on December 27, 1958, in Lorain, Ohio, to Donn C. and Elia D. (nee Colella) Riegel. John's life was one marked by dedication, passion, and a quiet strength that endeared him to all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Admiral King High School's class of 1977 he remained a resident of Lorain until 1994 when he moved to Amherst for the remainder of his life. His work ethic was unmatched, something that became evident to everyone who worked with him during his impressive 32-year tenure at U.S. Steel. John was a committed member of the U.S.W. Union.
John was a lifelong member of Lorain’s St. Peter Parish and faith was a quiet and steadfast force that guided him. John had a range of interests that kept him active and brought joy to his life including golf and his love for outdoors. John also shared a love for Motorsports with his brothers especially Formula One races on tv.
John's life was a portrait of the values he held dear: hard work, community, and the pursuit of joy in the simple pleasures of life. His legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and a quiet strength.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Donn and Elia Riegel.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert (Laura) and Richard Riegel; Godmother, Donna Scalzitti; Godfather, Dominic Orlando; and many cousins, family and friends.
The family will receive family and friends at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave, Lorain, OH 44053 on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 11:00 AM until the time of The Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM, Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, officiating. Christian burial services will immediately follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations designated in John's name be made to St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH 44053.
