Timothy Smith Obituary

Elyria-Timothy “Tim” Smith, 75, passed away at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Avon, Ohio on Sunday, February 25, 2024 after a long illness. Tim was born on April 14, 1948 in Elyria, Ohio where he grew up.  As an adult, Tim lived in Searcy, Arkansas and Lorain, Ohio before returning to Elyria in retirement.

A proud graduate of Elyria Catholic High School's class of 1966, Tim furthered his studies at Lorain County Community College to advance his career as an engineering services supervisor for General Industries in Elyria and later in Arkansas. Tim also shared his skills with the local community through his work at Home Depot in Lorain, where he became a familiar and trusted face to many.

Tim's faith played a central role in his life. He was a devout member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, where he lived out his values through service and fellowship. His dedication to his church was paralleled by his commitment to the Knights of Columbus. As a 3rd degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Council 637 and a 4th degree Knight and Past Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 811 in Lorain, Ohio, Tim's leadership and service were recognized when he was named Sir Knight of the Year for 2022/2023.

An avid sports enthusiast, Tim's passion for football was well-known among his friends and family. He was a dedicated fan of the Cleveland Browns, The Ohio State University, and Notre Dame University football teams. His loyalty extended to baseball, where he cheered with equal fervor for the Cleveland Guardians.  In retirement, Tim’s love for travel took him and his wife, Bobbi to Ireland, Italy, and many destinations around the United States.

Tim's work ethic, his involvement in his parish and the Knights of Columbus, along with his unwavering support for his favorite sports teams defined his character. Those who knew him will remember a man of integrity, generosity, humor, and warmth. As we celebrate the life of Timothy Robert Smith, we reflect on the impact he made on everyone he met. His passing is a profound loss, but his legacy endures in the lives he touched, the projects he led, and the community he helped to strengthen. He lived a life full of purpose and passion, and for that, he will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joseph and Hilda (nee Thome) Smith; first wife, Deborah (nee Stephan) Smith; and brother, Rev. Mr. Dennis Smith.

Tim is survived by his wife, Roberta (nee Buckley) Smith; brothers, Roman (Kimberly) Smith of South Bend, Indiana, Richard (Terri) Smith of Bellevue, Nebraska, Marvin (Carol) Smith of Grafton, Ohio, Gerald (Deborah) Smith of Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Virginia Smith of Green, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.
