Andrew Henry Schuffert, 95 of Lorain, passed away on February 27, 2018 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center in Lorain with his loving family by his side.
Mr. Schuffert was born on February 26, 1923 in Lorain, Ohio to Andrew and Anna (nee Ehrmann) Schuffert. He had lived in Lorain most of his life and he was a graduate of Lorain High School class of 1942A. Mr. Schuffert was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, involved in the June 6th, 1944 D-Day invasion of Normandy. During his military tenure, he received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Stars. Mr. Schuffert was a member of the Knight's of Columbus-Our lady of The Lakes Council #4223, and a lifetime member of the Saxon Club-Branch 5.
He was a member of the Church of St. Peter and a life member of VFW 451. He retired from Lithonia Down Lighting in Vermilion in 1985. Mr. Schuffert worked for 32 years at Thew Shovel in Lorain and for 2 years at the Lorain Shipyard. He was an avid bowler, he loved to travel, and he always enjoyed to play cards with a weekly canasta group.
He is survived by one son, William A. Schuffert of Avon; four daughters, Sharron (Jerome-deceased) Powell of Lorain, Andrea (Robert) Weirich of Lorain, Carolyn (Darryl) Mroski of Lorain, and Mary (John) Schuerger of Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Schuffert was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Anna; wife, Catherine A. Schuffert (nee Schrenk) in 1992; son, Thomas J. Schuffert; and brother, Edward J. Schuffert.
The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home at 9:30 AM, Friday, March 2, 2018 with Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor, officiating.
