Ernie Prunty

Ernie Prunty, 69, of Eaton Twp., OH, passed away following a lengthy illness on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at University Hospitals of Elyria Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Elyria, OH on August 16, 1949.

Ernie attended Elyria High School with the Class of 1968. Following High School, Ernie worked for Ted Balogh Construction and Frank Dettore where he learned to work with concrete and masonry. In 1974, he started his business, Prunty Construction offering quality masonry craftsmanship for over 40 years. Ernie was a member of the BIA. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce (nee Gentry) on October 14, 1968 and they raised two sons together, Paul and David. Ernie enjoyed coaching his sons youth baseball teams and being involved in his sons and grandchildren’s activities. Ernie enjoyed with his family, drag racing, oval track racing, following NASCAR racing and repairing and restoring on his old cars. His love and his joy was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Joyce Prunty of Eaton Twp; sons, Paul (Vikki) Prunty of Carlisle Twp and David (Erica) Prunty of North Ridgeville; grandchildren, Angelique, Annaliese, PJ, David Jr., Nathen, and Ealiyah Prunty; step-grandchildren, Candice Holley and Kevin Gembka; sisters, Doris Walker of Florida and Deanna (Chuck) Haney of Wakeman; and nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Adaline Prunty; brother, Billy Prunty, and sister, Joani Smith.

Ernie’s family would like to thank his physicians, nurses and staff at UH Elyria Medical Center for their years of exceptional care. His memory will be cherished always by those that knew him and those he helped at the end of his life with a final gift through Lifebanc.

A Memorial Service will be held at VFW Post 9871, 6805 Lear Nagle Road, North Ridgeville, OH on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM, Pastor Larry Sadowski, officiating with a gathering and luncheon to follow the services at the VFW. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Lung Association, 6100 Rockside Woods Blvd N, Cleveland, OH 44131 or to a charity of donor’s choice.
