Florence (Plante) Veroni

Lorain – Florence “Grandma Honey” Veroni (nee Plante), 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Johnna, in Avon Lake, OH, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada on April 4, 1927.

She married her husband, John “Jake” Veroni on July 6, 1946. With her family, she lived in Florida for a short time before moving to Lorain in 1957. Florence was a wonderful homemaker, raising her 8 children. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, past officer of Senior Sociables, a past officer of the Marian Guild, being awarded Woman of the Year in 1994, and she helped as a money counter for Sunday collections. She was an election worker and enjoyed spending time at the Lorain Senior Center with friends. Florence enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards, going to casino’s with family and friends, and was a loyal Cavs fan.

She is survived by her children, Linda Mathewson, Cathy (John) Sekletar, Mike (Patti) Veroni, Tom (Carol) Veroni, Terese Veroni, Tony Veroni, and Johnna (Tom) Lyman; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; loving nieces and nephews; and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jake” Veroni; son, Joe Veroni; parents, Edward and Laura Plante; siblings, Marguarite, Beatrice, Cyril, Adrian and Dorothy; and many loving family members and friends.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH, (440) 244-1961, on Friday, December 28, 2018, from 4:00 PM until closing prayers at 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 29, 2018, St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 1305 E. Erie Ave, Lorain, OH 44052, Fr. Ed Goldbach, OFM Conv., officiating (please meet at church on Saturday). Christian entombment services will be held at a later date at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, OH.
