Gladys Marie (nee: Jungbluth) Wisnieski, 90, lifelong Sheffield resident, was granted peace by the Lord on January 3, 2019. Born in Lorain on April 17, 1928, the 7th of 8 children to “Barney” and Anna (nee: Webber) Jungbluth.
She was preceeded in death by her parents and siblings as well as her husband, Kenneth; and daughters, Alice Fannin and Virginia Boone. She is survived by sons, Thomas of Lorain, and Gary (Charlene) of North Carolina; daughters, Ruth Rodriguez of Sheffield and Beverly Essex of Colorado; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
Gladys attended St. Teresa School and graduated from Brookside High in 1946. An active choir member from 3rd grade to age 85, she was a lifelong member of St. Teresa’s Church and the Altar & Rosary Society. She loved to join in nut roll baking and bingo. She was the smiley greeter for the annual fish fries with her opening line, “Do I know you?” She loved to talk on the phone – much to the dismay of her party line neighbors! She found herself and her collection of hundreds of phones of all varieties featured on “Del’s Folks” local TV show. An Al-Anon member and leader for 45 years, Gladys’ caring nature and concern for countless people resulted in lifetime friendships. She worked at Ohio Fuel Gas Company in Lorain, cared for the Tempe Burrell family for years, and was a natural at Shinko’s Country Antique Shop in Avon. After her first-ever flight to Germany, Gladys became an avid Volksmarcher (walker) and one of the first members of the Cleveland Valley Vagabonds Walking Club. She was the one talking while walking and taking pictures! She enjoyed watching her birds for hours out the front window of her home.
