Irene Szabo died on February 16, 2018 at the Ames Family Hospice House from complications of pneumonia and the flu. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday on February 24, 2018. She was born in Budapest, Hungary.
She arrived in the United States with her husband, Andrew (deceased 2001), after the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Mr. Louis Bodnar sponsored the couple to come to Lorain. They made their home in Sheffield Lake for 60 years.
Irene was employed by Lorain Products (Emerson) for 25 years. Her flower and vegetable garden was her pride and joy, and she shared her joy with everyone. Her baking and cooking skills were also at the top of her accomplishments.
Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Directors were entrusted with the arrangements. There will be no service or visitation. The inurnment of Irene and Andrew will be in Budapest at a later date.
