Jerome Kurucz Obituary

Jerome “Jerry” Kurucz, 77, of Haines City FL, formerly of Lorain, OH, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, FL.

 

He was born on July 8, 1942 in Riddlesburg, PA to his loving parents, John Joseph and Vera L.  (nee Eichelberger) Kurucz.

 

Jerry was a 1960 graduate of Lorain St. Mary’s High School and he was later recognized and inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame for his football years at Lorain St. Mary’s with his teammates, The Iron Wall. He also graduated from Lorain County Community College with an Associate degree in Electrical Electronics. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving state side and he was honorably discharged in 1964. Jerry continued his services to his country by enlisting and serving in the U.S. Army Reserves in Sandusky, OH until 1969. He married Judith (nee Ritenaur) on May 1, 1965 and they raised their four children together. Jerry worked at Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. as an Electrical Maintenance Supervisor for 30 years and he worked for 7 years at A.J. Rose Manufacturing in Avon Lake where he retired in 2003. Following retirement, Jerry with his wife, Judy, moved and retired to Florida. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Haines City, FL. and he was a member of Northern Ohio Amateur Radio Society – WB8L FO. Jerry worked for many years with the United Nations Amateur Radio Station. He supported and was active with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years of marriage, Judith Kurucz of Haines City, FL; children, Kathleen Kurucz of Lorain, Linda (John) Repko of Wellington, Deborah (David Woods) Kurucz of Lorain, and Thomas (Amy) of Chardon; 5 grandchildren; and 6 step-grandchildren.    

 

He was preceded in death by his father, John Joseph Kurucz in 1993; mother, Vera L. Kurucz in 2011; and sister, Marsha Chulik in 1988.

 

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Friday, August 2, 2019 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. A Memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain, OH where military honors will be performed by the U.S. Army. Memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to First Presbyterian Church, for prayer garden, 104 Scenic Highway, Haines City, FL 33844 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
