Joseph Manacci Obituary

Joseph Manacci, LaGrange, KY resident and former Lorain resident passed away peacefully on May 9, 2018 with his loving family by his side following a lengthy illness.  Joseph was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 11, 1955 to Gino and Eda Manacci and was the oldest of their six children. He moved to Lorain with his parents in 1955.  Joseph attended Admiral King High School in Lorain, graduating in 1973.  He graduated from Lorain County Community College upon completion of the US Steel Apprenticeship Program.  Joseph worked at US Steel in Lorain in the #4 stainless tubular mill as an electrician and an electrical maintenance relief foreman.  He retired from US Steel and went to work for the Ford Motor Company in Lorain as an electrician.  He transferred to the Ford Motor Company in Louisville, KY when the Lorain facility shut down.  Joseph retired from the Ford Motor Company in 2017 due to poor health.

Joseph loved his family, friends and pets dearly.  His interests included astronomy, reading, travelling, photography, music and history.  He made his own telescope and witnessed many solar eclipses including some outside of the United States.  He helped establish the Black River Astronomical Society in Lorain County with a few other astronomers.  Joseph was named Citizen of the Month by the Lorain Journal for going to Italy to notify and escort home the daughter of one of his high school teachers who unexpectedly passed away.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Teri Manacci, and his two sons, Marc and Michael; parents Gino and Eda Manacci; brothers Larry Manacci and Christopher (Patricia) Manacci; sisters Mary (Daniel Bick) Manacci Patterson and Annette Manacci; one niece, Gina Manacci and one nephew, Mario Manacci. Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Dominic Manacci, in 2017 and his maternal grandmother, Mary Antonelli, in 1991.

A visitation is scheduled on Thursday, May 17, 2:00pm - 4:00pm, at the Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home (2150 Broadway Ave., Lorain, 440-244-1961). Following the visitation, there will be a Christian Memorial Service with Father Craig Hovanec from St. Peter’s Parish.
