Lorain – Richard “Dick” Sykuta, 71, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center in Lorain, OH with his loving family by his side.

Dick was born on November 21, 1945 in Elyria and he lived most of his life as a resident of Lorain. He attended Admiral King High School before he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1963 where he completed his high school education. During his time with the Navy he was a airplane mechanic and he enjoyed boxing before he was honorably discharged in 1964. He returned home and married his loving wife, Dorothy (nee Olejko) Sykuta on October 16, 1965. He worked at U.S. Steel and First Energy “CEI” before his retirement. He was involved in the community coaching Lorain Youth Soccer and especially enjoyed the years his son, Rick Jr. played on his team. 

Dick loved the outdoors and he was an avid camper. He cherished his time, conversations and memories with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years of marriage, Dorothy (nee: Olejko) Sykuta; children, Kim (Rob) Knapp, Rick (Natalie) Sykuta Jr., and Krissy Sykuta; grandchildren, Sullivan, Kennedy, Logan, Hailey, Max, Mason, and Kellen; and sister-in-law, Gail Sykuta.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Betty (nee Moehle) Sykuta; sisters, Sandra Crapo and Nancy Kuhn; brothers, John and Mark Sykuta.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Monday, April 24, 2017 from 3:00 PM until the time of the Memorial Service at 7:00 PM with cousin, Stephen Polansky, officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Elyria, OH. Online condolences may be sent using www.rsgfuneralhome.com.
