Amherst Twp. - Richard R. "Dick" Zvosec, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at his home.
Richard was born in Lorain, OH on August 26, 1933. He graduated from Clearview High School, Class of 1951, where he was awarded All-County running back for the football team. Richard honorably served in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper and he was also a Tank Commander during the Korean War. He married his beloved Iona R. (nee Grell) on April 30, 1955. Richard worked at Thew Shovel, Lorain Plant, from 1951 to 1977 as a Machinist and Stationary Engineer. He then worked as a Stationary Engineer at Ford Motor Company, Lorain Assembly, from 1978 until his retirement in 1995. Richard was a member of the American Croation Club, Lorain, and past member of the former St. Stanislaus Church, Lorain. Dick enjoyed mechanical repair, he was an avid gardener, a great polka dancer and he loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Iona R. Zvosec; children, Karen Zvosec of Amherst, OH, Richard T. (Colleen) Zvosec of Edina, MN, Marcia (David) Farenholz of Delaware, OH and Ted Zvosec of Brighton, MI; sister, Audrey Bruck of Vermilion; and 8 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary (nee Vignovich) and ten siblings.
The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 3:30 - 7:30 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 8:50 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM, Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd, Elyria, OH, Fr. Donald H. Dunson, Pastor, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH. Memorial donations may be made in Richard’s memory to Lucy Idol Center, 435 Nicholson Rd, Vermilion, OH 44089.
