Stella C. McDermott

Stella (nee: Skolnicki) McDermott, 97, of Lorain, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Wesleyan Village in Elyria, OH.

She was born on November 25, 1920 in Lorain, OH, a daughter of Albert and Rose (nee: Lechovich) Skolnicki. Stella married her beloved, John McDermott on October 9, 1948. She was a graduate of Mary Mount High School, Class of 1939 and a 1968 graduate of Lorain County Community College, receiving her L.P.N. Stella worked as a nurse in Coronary Care at Lorain Community Hospital. She enjoyed crocheting, tatting and spending time with family. Stella was a member of card club for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Peter Church and a member of St. Anthony of Padua in Lorain.

She is survived by her children, Fran Smith, Janice (Paul) Lewis, John “Jack” (Lisa) McDermott, Terry (Brien) Moore, Colleen McDermott; 15 grandchildren, Jamie (Frank) Passanisi, Joshua Lewis, Jeremy (Kelly) Lewis, Kathryn (Thomas) Parker, Christopher Lewis, Alyson (Collin) Burns, Rachael Moore, Nicholas Moore, CaLae (Jason) Browne, John Kane (Elise) McDermott, Kirby (Kate) McDermott, Matthew (Leah) McDermott, Adam (Melissa) McDermott, Bradley Baird, and Joseph McDermott; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. McDermott; son, Joe McDermott; son-in-law, Bill Smith; and sister, Frances J. Nicholas.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, OH, Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor, officiating.
