Albert “Pooba” Yontack

Lorain - Albert “Pooba” Yontack, 91, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.

He was born in Lorain, OH on August 27, 1930 to his parents, Julius Louis and Mary Agnes (nee Schmid) Yontack. Al graduated from Saint Mary High School, Class of 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and he was honorably discharged on May 16, 1953. Al worked at U.S. Steel all of his life in several different areas and job capacities, retiring in 1986.

He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, OH where he loved serving in his youth as an altar server and later as a Sacristan, Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, and Lectern. Al, “Pooba” was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, James L. Martin Council 637 in Lorain, OH, serving as Grand Knight for many years and he was an Honorary Life 4th Degree, Assembly 811. He was also a member and enjoyed spending time with friends at Beaver Park Yacht Club in Lorain, OH. He enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, gardening, dancing and spending time with his family and friends. Albert married his love, Melody Sue (nee Cunningham) on April 14, 2016.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melody “Mickey” Yontack; children, Linda Heimann, Cindy (Terry) Heimann, Marybeth Blair, Jennifer (Karl) Mills, Tammy Nielsen, Sharon Nielsen, and James (Sissy) Nielsen; many cherished grandchildren; and sister, Barbara (Dan) Georgevich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Mary Agnes Yontack; grandsons, Jeremy and Christopher Mills; 2 infant grandchildren; and sister, Magdalene Puza.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM. Members of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree will offer prayers and services on Friday at 7:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, September 25, 2021 at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH 44053, Fr. Gerald J. Keller, officiating. Christian burial services will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH with military honors by AMVETS Post 32. Memorial donations may be made in Albert’s memory to St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH 44053.
