Anthony Jiovanazzo Obituary

Anthony “Tony” Jiovanazzo

Amherst – Anthony James Jiovanazzo, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, OH.

Anthony was born on October 26, 1951 in Rome, NY to his loving parents, Joseph and Rosemary (nee Fierro) Jiovanazzo.

Tony is a 1970 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School and he earned his bachelor degree in 1975 from Cleveland State University. While attending CSU, Tony was working at the Lorain County Courthouse where he met his love, Lynn M. (nee Berrington) and they married on October 23, 1976. Tony was an Insurance Agent and he owned, Tony Jiovanazzo – State Farm Insurance in Lorain, where he had the opportunity to meet and make many friends. He retired on December 30, 2019. Tony was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst and a social member of the Knights of Columbus in Elyria.

Tony was a man of many passions.  From new cars and boats to golf and travel, his favorite place to go was Florida. He checked The Villages website for Florida’s weather each day, often walking around the house singing The Villages jingle. Sports were another of Tony’s passions. When healthy, he loved watching and attending basketball and football games at all levels.  Elyria Catholic, Ohio State, Ohio University, and the Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers were his favorite teams.

Tony’s biggest passion however was his family and many of his close friends fell into this category. He loved them all fiercely with his whole heart and fought through many illnesses to remain an active participant in their lives, even doing things he didn’t love, or wasn’t physically able to do, just to experience joy through them. Together, with his wife, Lynn, Tony loved to host a good party. Whether it was for the big game, a clambake, The Feast of the Seven Fishes for Christmas Eve, or an annual family reunion, Tony never missed the opportunity to spend time and catch up with family and good friends. Tony especially adored and loved spending time with his granddaughters.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Lynn Jiovanazzo of Amherst; children, Jill Jiovanazzo and Scott (Michelle) Jiovanazzo both of Amherst; grandchildren, Giovanna and Hailee; brother, Vincent (Tricia) Jiovanazzo of MN; sister, Mary Beth (Jonathan) Hixon of NH; uncle, James Giovannazzo; and many loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joseph and Rosemary Jiovanazzo; brother, Joseph E. Jiovanazzo; grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
