Darlene C. Miller

Sheffield Lake-Darlene C. (nee Lucas) Miller, 85, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother passed away peacefully on November 17, 2022, while in the loving care at Avon Oaks Caring Community in Avon, Ohio.

Darlene was born in Lorain, Ohio on August 28, 1937, graduating from Lorain High School, Class of 1955-B. In her younger years worked at Faroh Candies and Gifts. On October 27, 1965, she married her dream husband, Ralph J. Miller.  She then worked at her brother’s Open Pantry food mart and then went onto being an Avon Representative for over 40 years. During this time, she earned the prestigious Avon Presidents Club Outstanding Sales Achievement Award thanks to her numerous customers and family members. For the next 25 years, she joined the Dollar Tree and Deals Store family as a clerk/inventory specialist where she truly enjoyed interacting with her co-workers and customers.

Darlene was a devoted wife and mother, always putting the needs of Ralph and wants of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren ahead of her own.  She loved hosting family gatherings and holidays at her home and preparing dishes from her Slovak Heritage.  She enjoyed bowling and participated in several leagues. She was also an accomplished roller-skater and Skate World Queen.  Her passions were flower gardening and collecting various items.  She was a devoted Guardians (Indians) and Browns fan, rarely missing a game.

She is survived by her son, Richard J. Smith; daughter, Valorie K. (Greg) Long; son-in-law, Robert Highsmith; sister, Mary Kay (Mike-Deceased) Marsico; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert J. and Catherine R. (nee Banaski) Lucas; husband, Ralph J. Miller; daughter, Christine L. Highsmith; son, M. Timothy Smith; and brother; Albert James Lucas Jr.

On Saturday, December 10th, a Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440)244-1961, from 11am until the service at 12pm, Fr.  Stephen L. Shield’s, officiating. Graveside service with Catholic Committal Michelle (Rock) Elwer, officiating, will be held at Calvary Cemetery Lorain, Ohio immediately following.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Thomas Church, 715 Harris Rd, Sheffield Lake, OH 44054.
