David "Dave" Burns Obituary

David “Dave” John Burns

Lorain – David “Dave” John Burns passed away at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, Ohio on Sunday, April 24, 2022.

A lifelong resident of Lorain, Dave was born to his loving parents, David Jerome and Betty Ann (nee Kiska) Burns, on January 2, 1960. He graduated from Lorain Catholic High School, Class of 1978 where he was the President of his class for all four years and was an All-State center for the Spartan football team his senior year. He was active in the Lorain Catholic Spartan Alumni Association. He then went on to obtain his Associate’s Degree from Lorain County Community College. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Janet A. (nee Lesiecki) Burns, on September 10, 1983. He completed a 4 year apprenticeship with LOCAL 42 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters. Dave worked with the tools for approximately 10 years. He then pursued a career in sales which became his profession for close to 30 years, 27 of which were spent at Anvil International selling pipe, valves, fittings and supports. He was passionate about his work and enjoyed crafting relationships with his customers, many of which became lifelong friends. He was a current member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain and past member of the former St. Stanislaus Church also in Lorain where he was President of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Lorain Lions Club since 1990 where he organized the Salvation Army’s holiday bell ringing for many years. His fellow Lorain Lions recently awarded him the position of honorary President for 2022. Dave was a loving father to his daughter Katie A. Burns, whom he devoted much time to by coaching her softball teams in the Lorain Girls Summer Softball league as well as the “Lorain Diamonds” OGSO team. While his daughter attended Elyria Catholic High School he spearheaded a project to revitalize EC’s softball field and add an electronic scoreboard. Dave enjoyed fishing, hunting, listening to music, playing golf, watching Notre Dame and OSU Football, and undertaking home remodeling projects. Dave was a dependable, loyal and passionate man who would always go out of his way to help others and had the ability to make friends wherever he went.

Dave is survived by his wife of 38 years, Janet A. Burns, of Lorain; daughter, Katie A. Burns, of Lakewood; sisters, Kathleen (Dennis-deceased) Hawke, Peggy (Rick) Catley; Bobbi (Dr. Krag) Churchill and brother James (Denise) Burns; and many loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Betty Burns; and his sister Amy Beth.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Ames Family Hospice House for their exceptional compassion and care for Dave.
