Derrick C. Doan

Lorain - Derrick Christopher Doan, 36, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, December 17, 2021, in Lorain, OH.

Derrick was born to his loving parents, Richard E. and Linda A. (nee Yuhos) Doan, on January 25, 1985, in Dallas, TX. He was a graduate of Southview High School, Class of 2003, and selected to the All Lorain County football team at the Linebacker position. He received a Football Scholarship and attended Walsh University in Canton, OH. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2006 serving combat deployments with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and was honorably discharged in 2009. He then began working as a laborer in construction with the Local 758 Union. Derrick was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church as well as the local VFW. He had great pride and love for his country. He was passionate for and supported political parties and programs that assisted Veterans and the United States Military.   He enjoyed sports, animals, and cooking but most of all, he loved people. You would find him hanging out with family and friends at local establishments, sharing jokes and stories while watching his favorite sports teams.  

He is survived by his parents, Richard and Linda Doan of Amherst; daughter, Madeleine M. Doan; former spouse, Nicole M. Coughlin (nee Schilling) of TN; sister, Sara M. Doan of Amherst; grandmother, Betty A. Yuhos (nee Thompson) and grandfather, Timothy F. Burns; aunts, Mary E. Yuhos, Karen M. Hitchcock (nee Yuhos), Jacqueline M. Yuhos, Vicki M. Doan, Tresa A. Doan (nee Kopp), Elaine R. Yuhos (nee Ciocca), Marianne Carmichael (nee Cikalo); uncles, Donald F. Carmichael, Michael R. Doan, William A. Hitchcock, John L. Yuhos II, and Christopher E. Yuhos; and many cousins. He is also survived by his faithful dog, Morrison.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Evelyn D. Burns (nee Andrews), Edward R. Doan and John L. Yuhos; aunt, Mary L. Doan; and cousins, B.J. Doan and Angela G. Doan.

Derrick’s family will receive family and friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH, (440) 244-1961 on Monday, December 27, 2021, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, beginning at 9:15 AM.   A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 41295 N Ridge Rd, Elyria, OH, Fr. Neil Walters officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps.  Facial coverings/masks are required throughout funeral services.
