Elia D. (nee Colella) Riegel, 90, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at her home in Lorain, OH.

She was born to her loving parents, Guerrino and Ida (nee Zero) Colella, on October 13, 1930 in Montenero  Val Cocchiara, Italy. She moved to Lorain, OH in 1946 and attended Lorain City Schools, graduating from Lorain High School. Elia married the love of her life Donn in August 1954. She was a homemaker for most of her life taking care of her three sons, Robert, John, and Richard. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Lorain and a member of the Montenero Society.   Her family, faith, close neighbors and friends were her life.  She enjoyed cooking and baking for everyone’s special occasions.

Elia is survived by her sons, Robert (Laura) Riegel of Lakemoor, IL, John Riegel of Amherst, and Richard Riegel of Lorain.  Donna Scalzitti, Bice (Sam) Ortenzi, Phil (Joan) Gigliotti, Ida (Bill) Skirzynski, Marcy (Rick) Plonski, Lori (Rich) Kapalin, and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Donn Riegel; her parents, Guerrino and Ida Colella; sisters, Ada Gigliotti of Erie, PA and Filomena Ziroli of Lorain; infant brother, Mario of Italy; and her dear nephew Pat Ziroli of Lorain.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 27, 2021 at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH 44053, Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Elia’s name to St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH 44053.
