Gilda Urso Obituary

On April 17, 2020 Gilda Urso, daughter of the late Vincenzo Caferro and Luigina Falbo and  loving mother of 3 children, passed away at the age of 96 at her home in Lorain, OH with her loving family by her side. Gilda was born October 4, 1923 in the village of Pianetti in the province of Cosenza, Italy and immigrated to Lorain, Ohio in July 1954 with her 3 daughters. She was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Church and the Sacred Heart Community.

Gilda loved nature and had such a passion for gardening and usually had the most beautiful flowers in Lorain. Her meticulous and abundant vegetable garden was also admired by all and her cooking was like no other. She loved learning and one of her favorite places to visit was the Lorain Public Library.  But most of all, she will be remembered for her infectious, kind-hearted smile, sweet and loving soul, and her desire to always do “the best” for all and especially and devotedly for, her family. Her legacy lives on in her family who she loved with all her heart. She passed on love, strength, grace, courage, and Italian traditions, which will live on in her family.

Gilda was preceded in death by her first husband, Emilio Urso in 1949; her second husband, Enrico Urso in 1993; her brothers, Orlando Caferro in 1958 and Carmine Caferro in 2013; son-in-law, Glen Mikolanda in 2015; and grandson, Christopher Burleson in 1982.

She is survived by her daughters, Maria Urso Mikolanda, Ida Urso, Yolanda (Roger Burleson) Urso Burleson; 5 grandchildren, James Mikolanda, Tera (Todd) Studebaker, Amy (Michael) Sullivan, Angela (Jason) Ott, and Andrew (Noelle) Burleson; and 13 great grandchildren, Angelina Studebaker, Lauren Studebaker Moreno, Anabella Studebaker, Justin Studebaker, Lilly Studebaker, Jacob Studebaker, Annalin Sullivan, Michael Sullivan, Braden Ott, Juliana Ott, Bennett Ott, Sloane Burleson, and Storie Burleson.

Due to Coronavirus, private Catholic entombment services will be held at Calvary Cemetery on Tuesday, April 21st, Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor, officiating.  A Memorial Mass to celebrate her beautiful life will be held on Saturday, August 14th, at 9:00 AM at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH 44053 in Lorain, OH. Arrangements and services by Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, Lorain. Online condolences may be shared with the family by using www.rsgfuneralhome.com.
