Juan “Johnny” Ortiz
Lorain - Juan “Johnny” Ortiz, 76, passed away following a lengthy illness on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Cleveland Clinic - Avon Hospital.
Juan was born on April 6, 1946 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico to his parents, Martin and Carmen Maria (nee Ortiz) Saez. He enlisted in the U. S. Army Reserves and he was called to active duty on August 17, 1964 into the U.S. Army. Juan served in the Vietnam War and was awarded two purple hearts for his services. He was honorably discharged on February 11, 1965. He married his childhood sweetheart and love, Mildred (nee Rosario) Ortiz, on April 27, 1970. Johnny was a past member of the Puerto Rican Home in Lorain and member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain. He enjoyed playing dominos, playing the lottery and watching sports.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred (nee Rosario) Ortiz; children, Anthony (Sophia) Hernandez-Ortiz, Marisol Ortiz, Henry J. (Janelle) Ortiz and Ariana Ortiz; grandchildren, Xavier Rodriguez, Anthony Jr., Alanna, Bryan, Joseph, Victoria, Isabella, and Jarielle Ortiz; and loving siblings.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Ortiz; father, Martin Saez; and brothers, Martin Ortiz Jr., Arturo Ortiz, and Orlando Ortiz.
The family will receive family and friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, (440) 244-1961, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH 44052 on Monday, May 30, 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain, OH 44055 from 8:30 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM, Fr. William A. Thaden, Pastor, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH with military honors.
