Katherine Bylica Obituary

Katherine “Kay” Bylica

KATHERINE “Kay” BYLICA (nee DiLuciano), 96, of Lorain, OH, passed peacefully on July 1, 2022. She was being cared for by Kingston of Vermilion since early June after suffering a stroke.

Mom will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all. She is survived by daughter, Carol (Roger) Sanders of Lorain; son, Joe (Sue) Bylica of Lorain; three grandchildren, Michael (Andrea) Bylica, Goldsboro, NC; Gena Szakats, Lorain, and Graig (Meghan) Szakats, Amherst; seven great granddaughters and one great grandson. She is also survived by sister, Mary Coviello; sister-in-law, Pat DiLuciano, both of Lorain; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in OH, FL, GA, NV and CA.

She was preceded in death by husband, Alex Bylica; parents, Dominic & Frances DiLuciano; and siblings, Andonio “Tony” DiLuciano, Donald DiLuciano, Jean March; and long-time companion, Phil Sofia.

She was born June 24, 1926 in Royal, Pennsylvania, but had been a Lorain resident since 1928. She graduated from Lorain High School, 1945 Class A.  Mom never met a stranger.  You may have been greeted by her smile as she volunteered from 1990 to 1995 at St. Joseph Hospital Gift Shop or helped you while she was employed at Isley’s, A&P, Dolbear’s, Goldberg’s, Polansky’s and then Fligner’s, until she retired in 1990.

From 1992 to 2007, she spent winters in North Fort Myers, Florida.  Kay was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish from 1951 to 1992 and St. Peter Parish since 1992. She was a resident of Anchor Lodge Assisted Living, Lorain from November 2016 to June 2022, where she befriended staff and residents.  A fun fact about Mom is she was voted Anchor Lodge Ms. Congeniality in February 2017 after only a few months in residence.

We thank and appreciate all of the wonderful care and concern during her stay in Assisted Living at Anchor Lodge and to the staff at Kingston for all they did for her during her final weeks. Special thanks to Carmen and Julie at Anchor Lodge and her granddaughter, Gena for all they did for Mom.

Visitation will be at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH on Wednesday, July 6, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
