Obituary

Kurt J. Van Dyke, 40, of Avon Lake, OH, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Cleveland, OH.

 

He was born on December 12, 1979 in Lorain, OH. Kurt graduated from Admiral King High School, Class of 1998. He furthered his studies at Wright State University, graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accountancy and Finance and a Minor in MIS. During college, he was a member of the Accounting Club and Beta Alpha Psi (accounting fraternity). Kurt married his freshman year love from college, Amy (nee Kamps) on June 11, 2005 and they lovingly raised their son, Logan together.

 

Following college, he worked fulltime with the desire, drive, motivation, strength and courage to better himself with experience and knowledge to continue learning and gained multiple accounting, finance and insurance licenses: CPA, CPCU, CMA, CFM, and CGMA. He worked as the Chief Financial Officer with Frederick Mutual Insurance Co. based out of Frederick, MD. Kurt also worked as Controller at National General based out of New York and he was the Finance Accounting Manager with State Auto.

 

He enjoyed watching several sports and looked forward to picking his fantasy sport teams while following his players and closely following the San Antonio Spurs, Blackhawks and San Francisco 49ers. He also enjoyed boating, playing basketball and softball, and he was an avid tennis player. He loved spending time with family and friends and he cherished and adored his “bro”, Logan. Kurt was known for his quick wit, positivity, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

 

He is survived by his dearest wife of 15 years of marriage, Amy (nee Kamps) Van Dyke of Avon Lake; beloved daddy and “bro” to his son, Logan Van Dyke of Avon Lake; mother, Christine (Rick) Adkins of Lorain; father, Kurt D. Van Dyke of Lorain; brothers, Christopher (Katie) Van Dyke, Daniel (Jessica) Adkins and Timothy Adkins; grandma, Susan Van Dyke; mothers-in-law, Kathy Kamps and Marie Carlson.

 

He was preceded in death by his maternal-grandparents, Elaine and James Sanner; paternal-grandfather, Arthur A. Van Dyke; uncles, James Sanner II and Arthur Van Dyke; and father-in-law, Ronald Carlson.

 

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved Kurt J. Van Dyke. Kurt’s wife, Amy with their son, Logan would like to thank all of Kurt’s family, friends and co-workers for all of the support and prayers during this difficult time. Kurt loved life and he treasured all of you. Thank you.

 

Private family services were held on Saturday, September 5, 2020.
