Mary MacNair Obituary

Mary Louise MacNair

Elyria-Mary Louise MacNair, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH.

Mary was born on April 21, 1941 to her loving parents, Loyd D. and Adrien (nee Trumble) Finch, in Bellaire, MI. She graduated from Mancelona High School, class of 1959. She married the love of her life, Richard S. MacNair, on July 24, 1965. While moving multiple times through Richard’s years of service to the United States Coast Guard, they had four children. She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain where she shared her devotion to God with others.

In years past, Mary taught herself to decorate cakes and enjoyed sharing in many celebrations with her baking. She also was a skilled seamstress, creating clothing for her children when they were young. Her daughters have been the willing recipients of her knowledge in these areas and will continue her creative legacy. In raising her family, Mary fed them as best she could, both spiritually and physically. She made sure the kids were at church and catechism classes. She lived out her faith every day and encouraged her family to do the same.  She provided tasty, comforting meals that will never be forgotten. Her school lunch treats of popcorn and fudge were prime trading material. Mary’s family considers her potato salad to be the best in the world and they will miss it tremendously.  She always cherished her pets, and leaves behind her sweet kitty Puddin’, who everyone says is the prettiest cat they’ve ever seen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Adrien; sisters, Joyce, Nancy, Iris, Ann, and Beulah; brothers, Louis, Bill, and Bernard; and great-grandson, Christopher Ashley.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Richard MacNair; children, Sean MacNair of Lorain, Marc (Tori) MacNair of Cleveland Heights, Dawn (Alan) Dayton of Elyria, and Darcie (Benjamin) Moldovan of Elyria; grandchildren, Meryl Smith of Elyria, Abigail Smith of Vermilion, Dana Smith of Elyria, Matthew MacNair of Geneva, and Rebecca MacNair of Massillon; bonus granddaughters, Kayla Smith of North Ridgeville and Chelsea Dayton of North Carolina; one great-granddaughter, four bonus great-grandchildren; brother, David Finch of Mancelona, MI; sister, Frances Fiedler of Kalkaska, MI; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary made such an impression on all she met that there are hundreds mourning her passing around the world. She had the sweetest spirit but would stand up for what she believed in with such passion and dedication that she will leave a legacy for years to come.
