Mary Ann Palagyi Obituary

Mary Ann “Nina” Palagyi

Mary Ann "Nina" Palagyi (nee DiLuciano), age 93, passed away on Thursday, February 11,  2021, surrounded by her family at her home in South Amherst.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Palagyi; son, John (Karen Carr) Palagyi of Hebron, KY; daughter Domenica (Steve)  McKinney of South Amherst, OH; grandchildren, Erika (Tony) Guth (nee McKinney), Steven (Lindsey) McKinney, Aaron (Theresa) McKinney, Kelly Carr, and Will Carr; great grandchildren Milan, Nina, Anna, Rose, Lorelei, Evan, and Jude, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Steven Domenic Palagyi, infant great grandson Fritz McKinney Guth; her parents, Domenico and Domenica DiLuciano; sisters, Mary Barrella, Santarella DiLuciano, Sophie Ross, Lena Duck, Josephine Kaya, and beloved sister-in-law Helen (nee Nagy) DiLuciano; and brothers, John, Ernie, Bill and Rocco.

Nina was a graduate of Lorain High School, a longtime member of St. Peter's Parish in Lorain, and she worked at A&P before shifting her focus to raising her children and caring for her mother. She passed along the traditions of her family to three generations, and embodied the idea of love through food. Holiday mornings were spent hand-making pasta while she taught people the right way to do things, and no one was ever allowed to leave her house hungry.  She was a lover of dogs (even though she always claimed not to be!) and spoiled them so much that she became "the treat lady". Nina enjoyed playing cards with friends, working jigsaw puzzles with her family, and watching her great grandchildren play. She was spirited, just the right amount of mischievous, and unbelievably full of love.
