Avon Lake-Nancy Gertrude Hartman (nee Holtwick), age 87, passed away April 22, 2023 at Main Street Care Center.
Nancy was born to Frances (nee Redinger) and Joseph Holtwick on September 22, 1935 in North Ridgeville, Ohio and lived many years in Lorain with her husband of 63 years, Carl who recently preceded her in death. Together they raised six children, Sue, Carl (deceased), Chris, Kate, Joel and Mike. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, two great grandchildren with one on the way, as well as her sister Martha, sister-in-law, Lois, and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy grew up in North Ridgeville with her five brothers and four sisters. After graduating from Elyria Catholic, she was a novice with the Sisters of Notre Dame in Villa Maria, PA. Upon leaving the convent and returning home, she served as a 4th grade teacher at St. Mary’s, Elyria. After meeting her husband Carl and raising their family, she returned to work as an aide in the Lorain school system. She was a volunteer at St. Anthony of Padua, Lorain for many years, enjoyed gardening at her home on the east side and jumping into the pool for water aerobics with her friends at the Y and the U.
We are immensely grateful to all our cousins and friends who were there with Mom at the end and who were chauffeurs, caregivers and all around helpers in Mom and Dad’s final years, especially “adopted” daughter Sharon. Visitation will be held at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 9:00 AM until closing prayers at 10:20 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain, with Father Edward J. Smith, officiating. A luncheon will follow at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo following the Mass. Christian internment services at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain will be held Friday April 28, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain, OH 44052.
