Obituary

Norman J. Porostovsky, 81, of Sheffield Village, and a longtime resident of Lorain, OH, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at his home in Sheffield Village, OH.

Norman was born on September 3, 1939 in Lorain, OH. He was a Lorain High School graduate, Class of 1957B. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in July of 1957 and he was honorably discharged on July 14, 1961. Norman married his loving wife, Dorothy (nee Jama) on July 25, 1970. He began working for Ford in August of 1961 where worked in various jobs and finally as an Inspector, retiring from Ford in 1997 following 36 years. Norman was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church in Lorain, OH and many private social clubs in Lorain. He enjoyed woodworking, vegetable gardens, watching westerns, target shooting at the gun range, cooking, and grilling.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, George Porostovsky; mother, Mary (nee Bozik) O’Melia; son, Robert Nuhn; brother, Allan Porostovsky; and sister, Patrice Batten.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years of marriage, Dorothy “Dottie” Porostovsky of Sheffield Village, OH; daughters, Gayle (Allen) Kiser of Elyria, OH, Michelle (Greg) Bufkin of California, Nancy (Charles) Allison of Missouri; sister, Georgia Wintrick of North Royalton, OH; and granddaughters, Jessica Allison and Sasha Nuhn.

 

The family will receive friends and family on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral & Cremation Services, Lorain, OH 44052 from 9:30 AM until the time of the Funeral Services at 11:00 AM with Rev. Paul G. Monkowski, officiating. Burial services will immediately follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Twp, OH. Memorial contributions may be made in Norman’s loving memory to Sts.
