Patricia Gedling
Lorain- Patricia Gedling, 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake, OH.
She was born in Middlesboro, England on February 14, 1924 to her loving parents, George and Jane (nee: Mattock) O’Brien.
Patricia graduated from Avon High School, Class of 1942 and she attended Lorain Business School. She worked as a secretary at National Tube and in 1944 she enlisted in the U.S. Navy
and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Yeoman 2nd Class. Patricia married James Gedling on October 1, 1952 and they raised three children together, Lori, Jim and David. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain where she was pleased to have served as a Eucharistic Minister and was involved in various church activities. Patricia enjoyed gardening, working with floral arrangements and she was an avid reader keeping up with political current events.
She is survived by her children, Lori Maiorana (Pete Rosso), James (Georgene) Gedling and David (Heidi) Gedling; step-daughter, Barbara Jean Johnson (Joe Barnicle); grandchildren, Salvatore (Adele), James S. (Julie), James (Kate), Nicole (Frank) and Erin (Ben); great grandchildren, Jules, Sophia, Jade, Giovanni, James R., Jemma, Madeline, Frankie, George and Genevieve; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Gedling; brother, Patrick O’Brien; sister-in-law, Maxine O’Brien; son-in-law, Philip Q. Maiorana; and grandson, Kevin Kiepe.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date with Christian burial services at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to St. Mary Church, Lorain. Funeral arrangements by Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, Lorain.
