Paul Peter Vakerics II

Paul Peter Vakerics II, 81, born November 29th, 1941, passed away in the early morning of February 17,2023 after a lengthy illness.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Francine Vakerics (nee Yelenc), his oldest son, Paul Vakerics III, and his youngest son, Ted Vakerics.  Paul had two grandchildren, a granddaughter, Rachel Meyer and a grandson, Henry Vakerics.  Rachel, who is expecting, lives with her husband, Joe Meyer and daughter, Avery in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Henry will graduate high school this year and lives with his parents, Ted and Cheryl in Madeira, Ohio. 

Paul graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1959, where he played on their state championship football team.  Following high school, Paul served four years in the US Navy which included serving on the aircraft carrier the Wasp during the Cuban Blockade. He is a member of the American Legion and the VFW.  Following his service, he married Francine Yelenc and graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Physical Education and then attended Purdue University where he earned a masters.  

Mr. Vakerics’ family will receive friends at Saint Mary Catholic Parish, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Fr. Paul Schreiner, Pastor, officiating. Christian burial services to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to a veteran charity of donor’s choice.  Funeral services by Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Lorain, (440) 244-1961.
