Richard “Count” Mielcarek

Lorain- Richard “Count” Mielcarek, 79, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at his home in Lorain, OH.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years of marriage, Sandra “Doll” Mielcarek on April 10, 2016; parents, Walter and Lucille (nee Thomas) Mielcarek; and brother, Gerald “Jerry” Mielcarek.

Richard was a lifelong resident of Lorain, OH where he was born on December 16, 1942.

He graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1962. Richard married Sandra “Doll” (nee Wymer) on June 28, 1980. He worked at Thew Shovel in Lorain, Ohio Edison, and for Lorain County. Count loved sports and loved his time spent as an OHSAA Referee for softball and basketball games. He was a member of Nativity BVM Parish in Lorain, the Bachelor’s, the United Polish Club in Elyria, Croatian Club in Lorain, Knights of Columbus in Lorain, the Elks in Lorain, and the former PACC and Polish Club in Lorain. Count enjoyed conversations and having fun with family and friends anywhere the opportunity arose.

He is survived by his loving sister, Germaine Pavelschak of Lorain; brother-in-law, Gary (Barbara) Wymer of Virginia; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961 on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:20 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Nativity BVM Parish, 418 West 15th Street, Lorain, Fr. Richard A. Gonser, officiating.
