Robert “Bob” Walter Jackson Sr., 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at his home in Lorain, OH.

Robert was born on September 28, 1930 in County Mayo, Ireland to his parents, John Henry and Sarah Agnes (nee Davis) Jackson. He attended Galway Grammar School in Ireland and moved to America at the age of 17. Robert lived in Lorain, OH since his arrival in 1947. He served as a Cook in the U.S. Army from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States May 5, 1954. He married the love of his life, Helen Marie (nee Schwarz) on June 25, 1955. Robert was a Crane Operator and worked for U.S. Steel for over 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, the Lorain Community Senior Center, and Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed carpentry and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandsons.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Kidwell; grandchildren, Robert III, Larry (Jessica) Ward, Rebecca (Andrew) Repko, Melissa Ward, Brittany (Zach) Stevenson of St. Louis, MO, Courtney Trimble and Emily Ricketts of Louisville, KY, and six great grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Sarah Jackson; his beloved wife of 43 years, Helen; daughters, Barbara and Margaret; sons, Robert Jr. and David; grandson, Michael; brothers, John, Arthur and William Jackson; and sister, Whilhelmina “Ena” McAleer.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961 on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Christian burial to follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp, OH with military honors by the U.S. Army.
