Robert “Bob” Smith

Lorain- Bob Smith, 86, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, May 8, 2022, in Lorain, OH. 

Bob was born to his loving parents, John C. Smith Sr. and Lucy (nee Martnetz), on June 17, 1935, at Elyria Memorial Hospital. He graduated from Clearview High School, Class of 1955.Being called upon by his country, Bob was drafted during the Korean War, serving in the United States Army in Germany, he was a radio mechanic, and he was honorably discharged in February of 1960, serving almost 2 years. After returning home,he met the love of his life, Gloria Marie (nee Zywotek), marrying her on October 27, 1962. Bob worked early at Thew Shovel, and Nordson before his career began working at Lorain Products where he was a supervisor of the repair department and lastly, Reliance Comm/TEC where he worked as a manager and a regional customer service and repair manager. He enjoyed going to the flea markets, car shows, engine shows, spending time outdoors and always remaining active. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucy Smith Sr.; siblings, Laura Smith, Eleanor Smith, Betty Smith, Thomas Smith, and John “Junior” Smith; and loving nieces and nephews.

Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Smith of Lorain; daughters, Cheryl (Thomas) Stein of Avon and Laurie Smith of Lorain; grandchildren, Dalton and Madison Evans; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob’s family will receive family and friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway Lorain, OH, (440) 244-1961 on Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 10:00 AM, Pastor Chuck Behrens, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Lorain. Online condolences may be sent using www.rsgfuneralhome.com.
