Sheila J. Strauser

Lorain-Sheila Jeannine (nee Sapp) Strauser, 81, passed away on Monday, July 17,2023 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

Sheila graduated from Lorain High School class of 1959-B. She married her husband, John Strauser on June 25, 1960. She was a parishioner at St. Anthony of Padua since 1962. Sheila was very active in her church and many different associations, professed in 1972 in St. John Vianney Third Order of St. Francis (at St. Anthony Church), and a part of the N.E. Ohio Maximilian Kolbe Region; past president and a minister of the St. John Vianney Fraternity; past president of the Marian Guild-Christian Mothers of St. Anthony’s and Woman of the year in 2009; past vice president of St. Anthony School P.T.U; Eucharistic Minister; Minister of Care; Lector at Parish Masses; St. Anthony Choir member; Catechist; served on St. Anthony Parish Liturgy Commission; St. Anthony Prayer Chain; Promoter of the Franciscan Mission since 1977; and The Conventual Franciscan Missions and Missionaries were dear to her heart. She enjoyed a busy family life, especially planning events and surprises for children and grandchildren, and annual family photos at Christmas, weddings, and at Lakeview Park’s Easter Basket. Her hobbies included reading, journaling, praying for others, collecting cookbooks and recipes, baking, decorating cakes, and making yeast breads.

She is survived by her husband, John Strauser; 15 children, John (Thu Ha) Strauser of Lorain, Patrick (Judy) Strauser of Sheffield Village, Kimberly (Ronald) Lahman of Brunswick, Brian (Cynthia) Strauser of NV, Jeannine Fillmore of NV, Andrew Strauser of FL, David (Nancy) Strauser of Amherst, Darlene Azar of Akron, Anthony (Tamara) Strauser of TX, Michael Strauser of KY, Matthew (Tina) Strauser of FL, Damian (Amanda) Strauser of Sheffield Village, Mary (David) Navarro of Lorain, Thomas Strauser of VA, Robert (Cheyenne) Strauser of CA; 31 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rhonda (Steve) Puhaly of FL, and Audrey Blackwell of FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Uldean V. (nee Catron) Sapp.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH 44052, (440) 244-1961, on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home at 9:20 AM Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on July 22, 2023, St. Anthony of Padua, 1305 E Erie Ave, Lorain, OH 44052, Fr. Kenneth Katricick, officiating. Christian interment services will be held at Calvary Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made in Sheila’s memory to Province of Our Lady of Consolation, Inc.
