Valia M. Kerecz
Valia M. Kerecz (née Marinucci), age 94, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, December 5th, 2021.
She was born in Lorain, Ohio on May 5th, 1927. She attended Holy Trinity School, Hawthorne Junior High, and graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1944-B.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Matty (Ronald) and Nancy Woltman (Donald); son, Theodore J. Kerecz (Robert Walker); granddaughters, Charity Matty Gangale and Melanie Harlan (Matthew); grandsons, Donald, Patrick and Christian Woltman; and great-grandsons, Ben and Ian Harlan.
Valia worked for the American Stove Company as a timekeeper. She knew and recalled many coworkers by their clock number. Valia served as Secretary for the Women’s Abruzzi Society. She later worked at DeLuca's Catering, enjoying her coworkers, and meeting old friends in the buffet line.
Throughout the years, she enjoyed sewing clothes for her daughters and granddaughters, from school clothes, to prom dresses, to a wedding gown. Valia belonged to a Pinochle Club that boasted a legacy of over 100 years. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter Parish. Valia had been a member of their Novena Society and enjoyed joining in on making quilts for their summer festival raffles. She joined the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR) and was chosen as SOAR Person of the Year in 2014.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Steve F. Kerecz, of 51 years; parents, Frank and Constance (nee Stanziano) Marinucci; brother, Theodore D. Marinucci (WWII Purple Heart); sister, Elaine M. Schaffer; and brother, Frank Marinucci.
The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM, Saturday, December 11, 2021 at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH, Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor, officiating (meet at Church on Saturday). Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH.
