William R. Emery

William R. “Bill” Emery, 75, of Sheffield Village, OH, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at University Hospital in Cleveland, OH.

William was born in Lorain, OH to his loving parents, William R. and Geraldine K. (nee Zinsmeister) Emery, on February 12, 1947. He was a graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1965. Bill continued his education while working full time to earn his bachelor’s degree. In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Army during and serving in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1968. William married the love of his life, Cheryl Ann (nee Puzder), on August 13, 1982. He worked in the steel industry over 30 years, mostly working for U.S. Steel and U.S. Kobe Steel, retiring as Superintendent. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church where he was an assistant minister and served on the church council. Bill also served on the Board of Education for 30 years in Sheffield/Sheffield Lake and many years on the JVS Board of Education. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, with a special passion for golfing. Most of all, he will be remembered as a loving father.

Bill is survived by his loving son, Will Emery of Sheffield Village; sister, Sharon L. Emery of Avon Lake; nieces, Beth Doane and Margaret Maurer; and great nieces and nephews, Nathan Ahren, Madelin Ahren, Mitchell Maurer, and Claire Maurer.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Cheryl Emery; and his parents, William and Geraldine Emery.

Family and friends will be received at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and at First Lutheran Church, 1019 W 5th St., Lorain on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Dan Wenger officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Twp., OH with military honors. Memorial donations may be made in Bill’s loving memory to First Lutheran Church, 1019 W. 5th St., Lorain, OH 44052. Online condolences may be shared with the family by using www.rsgfuneralhome.com.
